“Sustainability Reporting is the practice of measuring, disclosing, and being accountable for internal and external stakeholders for organizational performance towards the goal of sustainable development”.
GRI Sustainability Reporting Guidelines
Sometimes for big companies it is not clear the idea: why reporting? , and for SME the concept remains even more distant. Even though this practice is still uncommon for some, here we present some benefits it could bring you by just doing the exercise of reporting internally in your firm:
1. Reporting internally first. We recommend starting to do this exercise internally so your employees and the management department can get used to the idea of the implications on reporting and the procedures it implies. It is a good opportunity to set goals and track development on each department.
2. Demonstrating continuous improvement. When you start tracking your development, it is easy to prove continuous improvement.
3. Raising awareness. The information in your power will validate the changes you have been looking for. You may also realize that there are other areas that are going better than you expected as well as you may find some issues you weren’t aware of.
4. Competitive positioning. Sustainability reporting will definitely help your company differentiate between others.
